miserably, this perfect kimono set is only a rental.

Design by u-suke, one of the few designers who *DARE* to use color in men’s kimono and do it really really well. By pairing stark black and white with subtle violet, turquoise and red, the colors look brighter. I think the secret is because they are touching BOTH black and white. With just one, the colors might look duller as we mentally ‘adjust’ the color to be seen against the pure black or white background. But vibrating against both like this, the whole set seems to glow.

rental: 98,000 yen (4 days?) from Pure Santa.

    Mamechiyo’s Graduation Hakama style!

Rare lime green and salmon together would normally be paired with dark blue or red, but Mamechiyo has chosen a black background for the kimono and dark teal for the hakama. Interesting! Red edges in the collar, obi and hair ribbon mean a vertical line of red takes the eye down through the entire kimono. This color combination is vintage 60’s feeling without being old-fashioned. It still looks fresh and springy.

    Kimono: 57,750 from Mamechiyo
